7/17/2024 The S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite retreated on Wednesday as the rotation out of high-flying technology shares into more rate-sensitive names continued. The broad S&P 500 traded 1.3% lower. The tech-heavy Nasdaq slid 2.6%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average added 207 points, or 0.5%, lifted by a gain of more than 4% in UnitedHealth following a Wall Street upgrade on the back of its strong earnings report.

7/16/2024 The Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced to new highs on Tuesday, as the bull market broadened out beyond technology names on hopes of forthcoming interest rate cuts. The Dow surged by 641 points, or 1.6%, hitting a new intraday record. The small cap-focused Russell 2000 rose 2.8% and was on track for its fifth straight day of gains. The S&P 500 added 0.3%, while the Nasdaq Composite shed 0.2% as technology shares — the big winners so far in the 2024 rally — sat Tuesday’s gains out.
