7/3/2024 The S&P 500 ticked higher in Wednesday’s shortened trading session as investors appeared to look past sluggish economic data. The broad index added 0.2%, while the Nasdaq Composite rose 0.4%. Both touched fresh all-time highs in the session. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 53 points, or 0.1%, dragged down by a drop of nearly 2% in UnitedHealth. Trading volume was muted Wednesday with the New York Stock Exchange closing early at 1 p.m. ET. The exchange will be shut on Thursday for Independence Day.
